It’s A Positive Start
Tuesday evening October 30th will be noted in the future of League City
as a banner day for the City. The city council acted unanimously and
approved the first step of a public/private partnership appropriately
named Project Epic. The city council needs to be applauded for
deciding to take this action, which will start the process of putting
League City in the position to become a destination in the Houston
market and that of Texas. In general, it will benefit all of Galveston
County and build on the existing development to grow Galveston
County presence as Texas’ playground. The positive work done by the
Bay Area Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau this past year in
reestablishing its mission and presence and the city of League City
implementing a Convention and Visitors Bureau will help in managing
our growing assets and market them effectively.
The growing cruise industry at the Port of Galveston, the relocation of
the Lone Star Flight Museum last year, the expansion of Space Center
Houston, the Kemah Boardwalk, the continued development on
Galveston Island and the news this past week of the twenty-five acre
crystal lagoon development on the two-thousand acre master planned
community of Lago Mar in Texas City along with the infrastructure
planned for new Epic Center in League City will draw even more tourists
to our region and will draw more economic development to the area as
these amenities will along with our excellent schools will make this a
destination location for ancillary businesses and relocation. The
development of an even better sports complex in our region will also be
a draw for sports tourism and better facilities for our wonderful and
growing amateur sports organizations.
The location of the Epic Center next to the new developing University of
Texas Medical Branch, League City Campus with its opening this month
of the new MD Anderson Cancer Center and the future three million
square feet of development planned are exciting times for the future
and means jobs and an increased tax base, which our communities
desperately need to face the challenges ahead to deal with water,
drainage, roads and all the other demands put on communities that are
experiencing rapid growth. Their connectivity will surely become a show
piece for the community as well as a gathering point.
As TX DoT works diligently to improve our main corridors of Interstate
45 and State Highway 146 to ease traffic flow and works to develop the
future feeding arteries like the Grand Parkway into our region, the
conclusion will be a County, which will be easy to navigate with
wonderful economic development potential. The decision on Tuesday
evening has put League City in a position to be a gateway to an even
brighter future for the communities of Galveston County.
