Stories
It has been an honor and a privilege to be invited to
contribute to this publication. Thus far my
contributions have been largely related to business;
Real Estate statistics, the outlook on the market, as
well as what sorts of local or regional events have or
could affect those things. But our City and our Region
is about more than simply statistics, business and the
commerce that happens here.
Realty is my passion, but not so much because of the
business it generates, or the income. Mostly, it is my
passion because of the people in our community that
are served. People are my real passion. It is always
humbling to share and have the trust of a family during
one of the most significant events in their life. With
these events come stories. The people and their
stories are what make this “my thing”.
My husband told me he settled here in League City
because of the “character” of the town. He called it a
wonderful little tree lined baseball town. That was a
long time ago, obviously. But nonetheless, he talked
about what attracted him to this place. It had Dairy
Queen, and churches, a cool lake, awesome little
diners and donut shops, amazing small businesses and
the coolest hardware store ever. It had everything he
wanted his children exposed to and familiar with as
they grew up through school and into adulthood.
That’s how he described it. He also said it had
awesome people. Folks in the store who would smile
and call you by name after you’d been in a few times.
Waitresses who spoke to your kids by name and asked
them about their dog, or little league games. People
like that. A warm place. That’s where the real character
of the place comes from… People.

The other morning as my granddaughter was getting
ready for school. We were talking, and I was sharing with
her about coming back here to the states at 18. I was
surprised to learn in our conversation that it was a story
she had not heard before and it set me thinking. I
wondered about all of the stories I had heard over the
years and how many had been shared with me and more
significantly, how many more had not been shared yet!
Everyone has a story, or a dozen that are more than
worth telling.
So, I’m inviting you here to join me over the weeks that
come as I share not just my own story, but other stories
of people in our community. They will be shared on Face
Book Live – RE/MAX Space Center – The Bly Team. We’ll
learn together how folks came to be here, and why
they’ve stayed and made our community their home. You
will also be able to find them as the Stories are
compiled, on You tube, as “HomeTown Stories”. Click
here to see our 1st launch!
I hope you will enjoy hearing these stories as much as I
will enjoy sharing them! Our community and our region’s
character was, and is, a huge thing. Consciously or not,
it’s a giant part of what brought us here. And as years
pass and we grow, it is still what draws people here.
