LEADERSHIP LEAGUE CITY - EMERGING LEADERS

Our world is filled with daily news headlines about the pandemic , vaccine , the economy , and main street vs . wall street . Despite these obstacles , a group of local employers , employees , and business leaders raised their hands and stepped up to focus on leadership . These leaders recognized the growing need for good leadership within our community , be it a small or large company , a non-profit organization , or grassroots efforts . They give the thumbs up to support the incoming members participating in a nine-month leadership program presented by the League City Regional Chamber of Commerce .

After months of careful planning by the Leadership Advisory Council , a diverse group of community and business leaders chaired by Doreen Hughes , supported by Charles Pulliam , April Ciccarello , Leslie Ornelas , Tomorrow Orsak , Kathryn Shuler , Ray Soto , and Chase Unbehagen , all chamber members . Leadership League City rolled out to the community for applicants to apply and commit to the nine-month program .
Leadership League City ’ s goal is to nurture and engage emerging and current leaders by providing an atmosphere that stimulates and fosters diverse viewpoints . The program strives to create awareness and connect leaders with issues . During the nine months , participants get a better understanding of community needs , challenges , and opportunities . They build and develop relationships , share resources with other community leaders while sharpening their growth skills and techniques .
The program kicked off with a retreat at Lakewood Yacht Club , Seabrook , TX . In this tranquil setting , the group began the day with fellowship and prayer by Pastor Jervie Windom , followed by a delicious breakfast served by the friendly club staff . Then it was down to business ; the class members shared some interesting and fun facts about themselves that were laugh-out-loud funny .
During lunch , the group connected and share personal stories while building relationships . Closing out the opening day retreat , the Chamber hosted a cocktail hour that allowed the group to mingled , socialized , and get acquainted .
The program ’ s second session was held at the newly renovated College of the Mainland , League City campus ; this location is the base camp during the nine-month program . At this session , the class was already bonding as relationships begin to grow . The session focused on League City ’ s history , featuring Mayor Pat Hallisey . He enthralled the group with his fascinating stories about the city ; his wife , Janice Hallisey , accompanied him . Ronnie Richards and Jane McFaddin ’ s historical storytelling captivated the group going back to the days when the town was a horse and buggy town with the railway running through it . Chamber members , The Toasted Yolk Cafe , sponsored a delicious breakfast while Chick-fil-A generously provided lunch .
The third session focused on Galveston County Day , which traditionally includes an overnight trip to Austin , TX , where members meet with their state and local representatives to engage and advocate . However , Mark Henry , County Judge , and Darrell Apffel , Commissioner , were invited to address the group because of the pandemic . These leaders presented informative presentations on the role and work of the Commissioner ’ s Court . Wednesday , April 7th will be the upcoming session focusing on healthcare . “ A leader is one who knows the way , goes the way , and shows the way .” John Maxwell .
