Dance has no limits
Kiera Brinkley lost her legs and arms to a
bacterial infection when she was only 2
years old. But that was not going to stop this
confident, outgoing, now 16 year old.
Like any individual with a disability, she gets
tired of people staring and pointing at her.
Mostly she is happy to explain what happened
to her but those rude people out there better
watch out because she is not afraid to stand up
for herself. Determined to not let such nastiness
get her down, she often responds with “I got in
a fight with a shark”.
Through it all Kiera dances, in her living room
at home, in a practice studio at the renowned
Juilliard School in New York and on stage with
her high school friends and fellow students
cheering loudly.
Dance is her way of showing the world the ‘real’
her, not just some girl in wheelchair.
“Wherever I go in this world, dance
is going to be with me”
You really can do anything you want, if you are
willing to not be tied down by the limits others
try to put on you.
You have to just go for it - sharks n’ all!
