BEING PART OF A CHOIR IS
AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE
I went on my first Gondwana National
Choral School camp this year, just after my
13th birthday. I had been singing in Sydney
Children’s choir, which is a part of Gondwana
Choirs, since I was seven, but once as I
got older, I was getting too busy to go to
rehearsals, so I decided to switch to Gondwana
because it was less time consuming, just two
really busy fun weeks in January.
The best part of singing in Gondwana is being
able to meet other people that share the same
musical interests as you do and being able to
spend a lot of time with them over the camp.
Because I live in Sydney where the camp is
held, I don’t get to travel as much as other
singers, but if I get into one of the higher
choirs, I can go on tours to different countries
and other parts of Australia which I really look
forward to doing.
One of my favourite singers is Ariana Grande
because of how strong her voice is and I love
Rosemary Cook
Age 13 (Sydney NSW)
all of her songs. I also really like Betty Who
basically because her music is just really nice
to listen to and she sings her songs without an
American accent, which not many singers do. I
also really enjoy Lorde, Lea Michele, Haim, Iggy
Azalea and Of Monsters and Men.
Music expresses that which
cannot be said and on which it
is impossible to be silent. Victor Hugo

When I go on stage I don’t ever feel too
nervous if I’m in a choir because it’s a group
and I love it, but if I am on my own, I pretty
much can’t overcome my nerves.
In the future I would hope to still be involved
in music but not as a professional singer. I am
really interested in design and would hope that
I could make a career out of it.
My message to other young girls is that you
don’t need to be scared of not being good
enough when it comes to joining a choir. It is
only about whether or not you enjoy singing.
