gon d w oirs ch na a Bonnie Staude Age 11 (Albany WA) Choir is great fun, because you make lots of new friends, you can extend your musical abilities and you SING!! BEING PART OF A CHOIR IS AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE I just recently joined Gondwana Voices for National Choral School 2014. My dad came across a brochure about Gondwana Voices. It had looked really exciting to me, so I auditioned in Perth, which was a 900 km round trip by car, but it was lots of fun and well worth it. When I found out I’d been offered a position in the choir, I was really thrilled about the fact that I’d be able to travel to Sydney! I had never been out of the south west so the idea of traveling to the other side of the country was really exciting. I made lots of great friends at Choral School but the best thing about Gondwana Voices is being with kids with the same ability, enthusiasm and focus. Everyone is so willing to just sing for fun and to make a great sound. I met so many people with so many different personalities all there to do one thing - SING! It’s just so overwhelming standing in my choir position and just hearing this amazing sound ring through the air. People ask me what my favourite song is a lot and I can never really answer it properly! I can tell you what my favourite food is (chocolate) or my favourite animal (otters)! But my favourite song? It’s an impossible question to answer! I like to listen to Coldplay, particularly Every Teardrop is a Waterfall, Clocks, Charlie Brown and Paradise. My favourite song to sing solo is Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again (from “Phantom”), my favourite choral piece is Panta Rhei, a song I learnt at Choral School. And my favourit e song to sing in the shower is currently Let It Go from Frozen. As for my dreams for the future - that is a really hard question. I’m a member Albany’s Light Opera and Theatre company, and I really enjoy it. I think I’d like to go to WAAPA (West Australian Academy of Performing Arts) and study Musical Theatre. My message for other girls who are interested in joining a choir but don’t think they are good enough is to never doubt yourself. Telling yourself you are bad will make you feel bad, and you probably won’t sing to the best of your ability. Choir is great fun, because you make lots of new friends, you can extend your musical abilities and you SING!! I’d say make the most of being in a choir, because it’s a really awesome experience.
