Learning Outcomes
Module Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module you will be able to:
Develop analytical and descriptive skills in relation to the English lexis, grammar and sound
Build an understanding of the distinctive features of English language, and associated career paths
Recognise the issues surrounding how the English language has changed over time from its origins to the present day
Present arguments and engage constructively in discussions on linguistic topics
This module has its own specific learning outcomes and also contributes to the programme learning outcomes.
This means how you write about language (the forum and the essay), and how you can analyse language (the phrase exercise and the cartoon)
This means being able to show that you understand things like 'phraseology' and 'pragmatics', and how this understanding makes you employable.
This is covered by the final assessment - the essay on language change - in which you can show your awareness of some basic ways language changes.
This is where the forum comes into it. The forum is where you can demonstrate your ability to discuss language with other students.
