Improvisation has been one of the fundamental charac- teristics that we have incorporated into our interpreta- tions because I think it is very important to leave each musician room to express their ideas and thus enrich the final result. MTW — The Modern Tango World community is very interested in dancing. From your point of view, is the music of Tango Fusion meant to be danced, or at least dance- able? Have you ever worked together with dancers? Anibal Berraute — I’m one of those who thinks that anything that has rhythm can be danced. But I haven’t worked with dancers yet because I always thought my music was just to hear. Maybe in the near future. I’m thinking of incorporating dance to enrich the visual part and improve the experiences on stage. In particu- lae, I appreciate the beautiful examples of Julio Bocca on themes of Astor Piazzolla! MTW — How do you feel about today’s tango scene? Is tradition melting with the contemporary nuevo cul- ture, or are they rather setting apart?. In other words, do you feel we’re going backwards or going forwards in terms of music and dance?. Where do you think we’re going in the future? Anibal Berraute — Music has always gone for- ward, expressing the spirit of the era and the present is no exception. Tango, as other genres, is looking for his new outfit, and in Argentina has emerged a new gen- eration of exceptional musicians who fortunately have drunk the cultural roots of the genre and express them in their own way, so I think the future is assuredç MTW — What can you tell us about your future and the future of Tango Fusion? Do you have any particular short or long term projects for new albums or live con- certs tours? Are you personally involved in other musi- cal projects? If so, can you tell us something about them and your future plans? Anibal Berraute — My plans are to continue com- posing, continue playing and continue to express my ideas where they let me do it!. In 2018, I hope to record my second album, which is finished at the conceptual level, and be able to ascend a step further than the first.
