BTWE  –  Behind  the  Scenes  of  Fashion   with  Emily  at  McKinney  Park!     Model  Emily  Beins   Photo  ©  Brian  Thornton     Model  Latrice  Newman  with  Photographer   Susan  Blatchford/Photo  ©  Brian  Thornton    Brian  Thornton   F  rom  the  heavens,  I  discovered  McKinney  Park  in   Saginaw   while   browsing   satellite   feeds   from   Google   Maps.  Ater  reading  the  history  of  “Coach”  Lawrence  H.   McKinney,   who   taught   life   lessons   to   Saginaw   youth   through   sports,   and   lobbied   to   restore   the   park,   and   reading  about  the  efforts  of  Project  Unify,  a  local  group   that   is   currently   working   to   restore   the   park   to   its   former  glory,  I  scheduled  a  photo  workshop.      During  the  workshop,  a  group  or  models   and   photographers,   many   strangers   unal   that   day,   gathered   for   a   posiave   evening   of   recreaaon   and   growth.   That   embodies   the   spirit   of   both   what   parks   offer   to   their   communiaes;   and   what   Coach   McKinney   wanted,  and  expected,  from  everyone.     Watching   from   behind   the   scenes,   I   was   humbled  to  see  this  group  draw  closer  together;  work  as   a  team,  and  ulamately,  become  friends.  As  I  sat  on  the   bleachers  and  watched,  I  would  like  to  think  that  Coach   McKinney   was   sijng   and   watching   with   me,   though   most  who  knew  him  would  argue  that  we  was  never  one   to   sit   on   the   sidelines.   For   more   informaaon   about   the   restoraaon   project,   contact   Patrice   Boulware   of   Project   Unify   at   (989)   906-­‐3585.   Donaaons   can   also   be   made   directly  through  the  Saginaw  Community  Foundaaon  at:   www.saginawcommunityfoundaaon.org   Modern Model Page 28 Model  Laci  Jo  Stanton   Photo  ©  Brian  Thornton
