F
rom
the
heavens,
I
discovered
McKinney
Park
in
Saginaw
while
browsing
satellite
feeds
from
Google
Maps.
Ater
reading
the
history
of
“Coach”
Lawrence
H.
McKinney,
who
taught
life
lessons
to
Saginaw
youth
through
sports,
and
lobbied
to
restore
the
park,
and
reading
about
the
efforts
of
Project
Unify,
a
local
group
that
is
currently
working
to
restore
the
park
to
its
former
glory,
I
scheduled
a
photo
workshop.
During
the
workshop,
a
group
or
models
and
photographers,
many
strangers
unal
that
day,
gathered
for
a
posiave
evening
of
recreaaon
and
growth.
That
embodies
the
spirit
of
both
what
parks
offer
to
their
communiaes;
and
what
Coach
McKinney
wanted,
and
expected,
from
everyone.
Watching
from
behind
the
scenes,
I
was
humbled
to
see
this
group
draw
closer
together;
work
as
a
team,
and
ulamately,
become
friends.
As
I
sat
on
the
bleachers
and
watched,
I
would
like
to
think
that
Coach
McKinney
was
sijng
and
watching
with
me,
though
most
who
knew
him
would
argue
that
we
was
never
one
to
sit
on
the
sidelines.
