Modern Model Pg. 31
BTWE Presents...
Sarah Light, Sarah Dark
The concept was born, in part, because when we first met Model Sarah Valek, we were overwhelmed with her positive attitude -- she was so friendly and playful and polite, that we had to wonder what her alter-ego would be like.
We had also been dying for an opportunity to work with Sarah Deford, a masterful dress designer, and came up with the idea of a workshop that would see Sarah Valek start out as a demure princess, and then be transformed, through the magic of makeup and fashion design, into the evil version of herself.
The workshop, which was highlighted as an opportunity for attending photographers to immerse themselves in the use of graphic programs such as Adobe Photoshop, was shot with a green screen background, to allow digital backgrounds to be added with ease.
Elizabeth Aranda, a photographer who attended the workshop, displayed her true mastery by submitting photos that showed Sarah Valek as both princess and villian, and even delivered a startling rendition of Sarah delivering a poisoned apple to herself near a scenic lake, worlds away from the studio where the shots were actually taken.
Aranda, who used Lightbox and Photoshop to arrange and edit the images, demonstrates the ability to combine the elements of both taking a quality photographic image, and using modern editing tools to create the most imaginative image possible.
