The main idea of this story was a man choosing between his wife and job. A week before his wedding he received a message about government position. During this period the man was under stress from the new found attention he was getting from his poetry and government achievements. He then began to start guessing about his marriage where at a point he had rocky roads with someone other than his wife. Then he received a letter on how she felt. They went on to get married and the man felt relieved that he no longer had to choose between his wife and his job. Sometimes throughout one’s life one can be confronted with numerous situations with each different action resulting in a completely different outcome. However just in Anderson’s “The Other Woman” our choices now determine our future. The main character has to make decisions that will affect his impending marriage. Despite the fact that he is engaged he still has an affair with a Tobacconist’s wife, and rendezvous with her several times. While his activities continue in the dwindling amount of time before his approaching marriage. Eventually he chose between his fiancé and the other woman, and he disentangles himself from his affair. In conclusion throughout our lives we continue to be confronted with difficult situations, just like the main character in Anderson’s “The Other Woman”.
