stands a nearly 100-yearold, Italianate villa designed
by the prolific American
architect David Adler. The
15,000-square-foot lakefront
home was designed in 1916
by Adler for Chicago banker
and attorney Charles Pike,
and his wife Frances. With 21
rooms, six of them bedrooms,
and a majestic courtyard paved
with stones from the beach,
the small estate in Lake Bluff,
Ill. has a grand appearance, but
cozy feeling – and a stunning
view of Lake Michigan.
