Other wines to try are the 2013 Fire
Road Sauvignon Blanc from Malborough, New Zealand, which Schnell
refers to as a perfect “patio drink” and
a 2012 Vision Cellars White Wine,
Santa Lucia Highlands, California. Both
are in the $13 – 19 price range.
Does Schnell subscribe to the white
wines with white meat or seafood
and red wines with red meat or heavy
sauces? Not really. “I say step out
and try something different. Have a
Pinot Noir with grilled pork chops. Although it’s light in color, it is complex
in a nature,” she says. “A good rule to
consider: a lighter wine pairs well with
lighter fare. Your robust wines pair
better with heavy sauces and heavier
meats,” she continued.
“When you feel more confident
with your wine knowledge, I say not
to stick by the rules. Create your own.”
Enjoy your fall wines!
