race report MC eThekwini gets BMX race T he second round of the inaugural Development Race Day Series 2014 took place in the eThekwini District at Lahee Park Sports Grounds in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday 20 September. The eThekwini District embraced the series and saw representation from Ashley Primary School, Benjamin Pine Primary School, Christianenburg Primary School, Zakhele Primary School and Kwamanzini Primary School. “When I watched the practice, what I thought would happen, did,” said Cycling KZN Development Officer Tyrone Johns. “The kids were flying around the course and loving the speed they could get out of their GT BMX Bikes.” The second round of the inaugural Development Race Day Series 2014 took place in the eThekwini District at Lahee Park Sports Grounds in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday 20 September. Photo: supplied Racing followed the practice session, and the kids prepared to compete in their various heats before entering the elimination rounds. There were six children under the age of 10, so a slight tweak to the usual programme meant that those six raced each other in the same heat, as opposed to the traditional 12-and-under category. Ethan Hood from Benjamin Pine Primary took top honours and was closely followed by Malibonge Cele from Christianenburg Primary and Sanelise Zama from Ashley Primary in third place. Next up was the 11- and 12-year category with Arnold Sithole in first place followed by Sizwe Dlamini and Menzi Radebe. It was really good to see Ashley Primary School cleaning up the top three positions in that race. The day ended with the main event, which saw Sihle Cele from Ashley Primary getting first place, with second place going to Malaziwe Njapha from Christianenberg Primary and third place going to Ntuthuko Mbatha, also from Christianenburg Primary.
