______________________________________________________________________________________________ Darius
Henderson wanted to change. Then I ask if they are living that out today. It helps them reconnect with who they are beneath the drive for success; rather than focusing on titles and offices, it reframes their career at the very core of who they are.”
Personally, Darius has also evolved his own definition of success.“ When I was younger, I wanted to make a splash; I wanted to be the one out front, the power lawyer,” he says.“ I still want to make a difference, but I want to do it in a quieter way now.”
Be sweet
Away from work, Darius is an avid runner, a regular at the gym, and always happiest outside, and admits that family brings its own unique sense of joy. Darius is married to his law school sweetheart, and they have three children who are well accomplished in their own right.
As he reflects on is formative years, he calls the enormity of the impact his mother and grandmother had on his life. He vividly recalls that:“ I wasn’ t reared to be smart, or top of my graduating class; quintessential to my southern upbringing, I was reared to be sweet. They would often say,‘ Darius, be sweet, and get along with people and that kindness will always pay off.’ This mantra for navigating life has and continues to open doors for me at both a professional and personal level.”
The seemingly simple principle of being sweet has led to a career that young Darius believed in but couldn’ t envision. However, for all the distance and roles he has traveled, Darius measures his success less by how far he came and instead by how much he can give back. ■ modern-counsel. com 93
