Only the best of the best took to the track at the seasonending World Athletics Ultimate Championships, held for the first time in Budapest, Hungary, from 11-13 September. The action-packed spectacle featured only Olympic and world champions, Diamond League winners and the season’ s top-ranked athletes, with US $ 150,000 up for grabs for the winners of each event from a total prize pot of $ 10 million. With fireworks, black grass for the field events, sprinters picking their own lanes, a party vibe, and super-stylish trophies that featured champion bracelets instead of medals, it was a whole new take on athletics.
