Welcome to the New Modern Athlete
With change comes new beginnings , and this issue welcomes a new era of Modern Athlete , where for the first time it ’ s a team effort bringing you the mag ! We may employ a new editor down the line , but for now , as we create a new direction , we are pulling to bring you your favourite sports magazine .

Toni Cavanagh , the new chairman of the Totalsports Two Oceans Board , has a battle not many know about , a degenerative disc disease and multiple sclerosis made her body feel like a battlefield . She takes it into her battle and how through it all she still finds herself running .
Akani ’ s Foundation gives MiDesk Wings
Last year we received a special invitation to Sizuzile Primary School to attend a desk handover . We were not sure what to expect but the lure of the Akani Foundation sparked our interest . Arriving at the school was a journey we were so honoured to be part of , the MiDesk project is something phenomenal .

2024 saw Glenrose on a winning streak , winning title after title , eventually culminating in running the new SA Marathon Record at the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon . It was a season that showcased just how much talent she has , and how she is set to start dominating the world stage .

The Pretoria race of the Balwin Marathon series is going to be something special , it ’ s by no means an easy marathon , especially being a double lapper , but it offers something special on the Gauteng North Racing Calendar . Last but not certainly not least , is the Dolphin Coast Marathon which being a point to point is a perfect preparation for a certain ultra in June .
