OMTOM CLOSES IN ON LITTERBUGS PERFECT DAY FOR TRAIL RUNNING The 2017 OMTOM saw the official implementation of the #GOGREEN waste management strategy, coupled with our anti-littering campaign. It was great to see runners embracing our anti-littering initiatives, and while there is still a lot of work ahead to convince all runners to run clean, this was a great start. The 2017 edition of the Old Mutual Two Oceans Trail Runs took place on 14 April, and a fully subscribed field of 1000 trail snakes tackled new routes through Newlands Forest and the slopes of Devil’s Peak. A variety of terrain – from forest paths to technical single track – combined with great weather conditions (with mist, sun and gentle rain featuring on various parts of the route), made for perfect trail running conditions. Through #GOGREEN – a campaign that is run in collaboration with Old Mutual and Wildlands – all non-organic litter discarded into the Throw Zones at the OMTOM Expo and along the route is currently being transformed into at least 500 school desks for needy schools in and around Cape Town. Video footage of the entire route has been reviewed, and the details of runners guilty of intentional littering have been handed over to their clubs, while the details of elite runners littering intentionally have been sent to Western
