The event was an outstanding success, with over 6500 participants, and featured a full closure of the M4 coastal highway from Ballito to Durban, world class water points, and a spectacular new finish in the Amphitheatre on the Durban Promenade, with the Golden Mile as backdrop and sand and sea in front. The Marathon had just under 2000 runners and was won by Mholi Jali in a time of 2:24:30, with Janie Grundling taking the women’s title in 2:57:08. Meanwhile, the Half Marathon, which starts at the Sibaya Casino, grew to over 3000 runners, with Sipho Mbanjwa first over the line in 1:07:04, and Maria Mjoli the women’s winner in 1:22:43. Also part of the event were a 10km road race, 5km fun run and 40km cycle race, so The Deloitte Challenge offers something for everyone. And at the finish, a wide variety of food vendors, chill zone, beer tent and the LIV kids play area kept everyone entertained well into the afternoon, so the running community will be looking forward to the 2018 edition of this blue-ribbon event. 27
