NEW TRI PARTNERSHIP ANNOUNCED

Exciting times lie ahead as the Modern Athlete Dare to Tri Academy will partner with the TinMan and MiWay Ultra Triathlon Series events for 2017 to further promote the sport of triathlon .
The Modern Athlete Dare to Tri Academy ( DTT ) is committed to supporting South African products , companies and events , so we are very excited to announce a new partnership with B-Active Sports Marketing , organisers of both the Tinman Tri & Run Series and the Miway Ultra Triathlon Series . Both of these series are ‘ born and bred ’ local events , are fully locally owned , and are partnered with many other proudly SA brands .
The partnership with the two tri series will promote the development and growth of triathlon across South Africa and ensure more people are exposed to the sport , including making it more accessible to newcomers . The KZN-based TinMan Series is in essence a developmental series , offering triathlon options from long distance and sprint distance to a race for kids from as young as eight years old , while the national MiWay Ultra Tri Series consists of four events in three provinces , offering both long and short distance races for both individual and team entrants . “ We are excited to announce this partnership , it is just a small way that we can engage with our athletes and push the growth of the sport across SA ,” says B-Active Race Director Damian Bradley .
DTT will utilise the Tinman and Miway Ultra events as target events for its 2017 programme , and will promote these events not only to our DTT athletes , but the greater running and multisport public via the magazine and electronic platforms . Our training programme and racing schedule , especially for novice triathletes at all distances , will be geared to compete at these events .
In turn , the Miway Ultra series will support Dare to Tri with the following :
• Discounted entry fee to all registered Dare to Tri athletes .
• Exclusive Dare To Tri allocated area at each event for Gazebo ’ s and banners .
• Access to race route information prior to each event , including extra detailed info not supplied on the event website .

Meanwhile , in another new partnership , DTT will also be partnering with a deserving Charity Partner , the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa , better known as CHOC . Known for its runners and riders that participate in many events in distinctive cow suits , CHOC raises funds to help children suffering from cancer as well as support their families , and we are proud to have this incredible organisation on board with DTT .
STARTING 2017 IN STYLE
The DTT team had 20 triathletes competing in the Trinity Sports Triathlon in in Germiston in mid- January , with 16 recording a PB for their chosen distances , proving once again that the Dare to Tri programme really works ! These athletes were all in their first or second year of triathlon and their performances really highlight what the DTT programme stands for : “ Consistency brings results !”
Many young or novice athletes try to apply the training methods used by elite athlete to their own training , and this simply does not work ! Instead , with careful planning and the right amount of training at the correct time , all athletes can improve and achieve their dreams . And improvement leads to one of the most important aspects of endurance sport , confidence ! Once you start building confidence , it becomes easier to tackle training and racing at the next level , and increases the desire to train harder .
At the time of writing , we had close to 30 Dare to Tri athletes doing final preparation for the Standard Bank Ironman 70.3 SA in East London in late January , including 12 novices ! In 2016 we had 100 % finishers , and we hope to report in the next edition that we achieved the same in 2017 . Thereafter we have a smaller group training for the full Ironman in PE in April , including our visually impaired athlete Helen Webb , who continues to amaze everyone with both her performance and her incredible attitude .
