The Dis-Chem Goes Greener
T
he organisers of the Dis-Chem Half Marathon are committed to making this massive event more eco-friendly, so the 2016 edition of the race
will embrace Modern Athlete magazine’s #RunClean campaign. As part of this, innovative initiatives to improve the race and the value to
the runner will include litter-free zones, waste recycling, cost maintenance and virtual medals. As a result, the organisers have been able to
keep the entry costs the same as for the 2015 race.
The race starts in Bedfordview and takes in the eastern suburbs of Bedfordview, Morninghill, Bedford Gardens and Primrose, so the route is quite a tester.
After a relatively flat first 11km, the next 7km just keeping climbing, but the reward at 18km is a lively downhill sprint to the finish. There is also the
accompanying Centrum 5km Dash on offer, for those not quite ready for a tough 21 kilometres.
But wait, there’s more…
• Technical T-Shirt: Every half marathon entrant will receive a technical Tee if collecting their goody bag at registration points.
• Seeded start: Faster runners can line up near the front, while more social runners can take it easy nearer the back.
• Free magazine: Get your free copy of the January edition of Modern Athlete at registration!
The Dis-Chem Half offers a terrific kick-start to your running year, so make sure you’re part of it. For full
