THUMBS UP FOR COACHING CLINIC
Close to 40 people attended the second Modern Athlete Coaching Clinic at Huddle Park in Joburg on 3 October, and like the first
coaching seminar earlier this year, the response from the athletes that attended was once again very positive.
The athletes were split into three groups that rotated between the three facilitators through the morning, thus allowing all of them to spend real quality time with the
experts. Modern Athlete Club Coach Ray Orchison (www.runetics.co.za) put them through an ‘FBI agent fitness test’ to help them assess where they are fitness-wise, then
explained why it is important to do fitness tests as part of your training, and how to use the information going forward. Then Modern Athlete Club Ambassador and two-time
Olympian René Kalmer took them through a number of running drills, focussing on running form and technique, and the benefits thereof. In the third group, independent
Life Coach Paula Quinsee (www.ati2ud.com) took them through the mental and emotional aspects of training and racing, including ‘hitting the wall’, overcoming injury and
keeping motivation going
As René put it, “It was great to share my experience with
fellow runners and also answer a lot of questions on all areas
of running, but the best part was recognising, greeting and
chatting to all the familiar faces from the training clinic the next
day at the Rainbow road race.”
AND THE FEEDBACK
FROM THOSE THAT
ATTENDED WAS VERY
POSITIVE:
• Deon Elhers: “Enjoyed the coaching clinic a lot. Some very
valuable information shared by Paula Quinsee, René Kalmer
and Ray Orchison.”
• Mariska Casey: “Thank you so much for an amazing
