Modern Athlete Club Ma FIRST CLUB SEMINAR HITS THE SPOT! On Thursday 16 July the Modern Athlete Club held its first Info Seminar in Johannesburg, an evening of short, informative talks by leading athletes and experts, with a fun vibe and some great prizes as well. Hosted by the Gooderson Fabz Garden Hotel and Conference Centre in Lonehill, a healthy-sized audience listened to talks by four speakers, with each talk followed by a short Q&A session. The programme included training and nutrition sections with Modern Athlete Club Coach Ray Orchison and Justin Stout of Atkins Nutrition, as well as two of SA’s top athletes, two-time Olympian and 40-time SA champion René Kalmer, and top Gauteng trail runner and Comrades silver medallist Bennie Roux. Both athletes are now Brand Ambassadors for the Modern Athlete Club and running in our colours, and they grabbed the audience’s attention with their humour as well as fascinating stories of racing at the top level. THE FEEDBACK FROM THOSE WHO ATTENDED WAS OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE: • • • • • • • Johan Grassman: “Knowledgeable, informative and inspirational speakers. Great venue and awesome vibe.” Kekeletso Masakale: “I liked everything about the seminar.” Ronel Jooste: “Great initiative! Opportunity for runners to network and learn more about the sport.” Gail Strang: “Your speakers were informative and entertaining, and kept to a time limit. I’ll be at your next one.” Bradley Herbert: “You guys really connected with us.” Wendy Barraclough: “I found it very informative and all speakers were easy to listen to.” Rob Hodgkiss: “It ended too soon, we could have gone on all night!” GAUTENG NORTH BRANCH LAUNCHED René Kalmer NEXT QUARTERLY CLUB EVENT Our next Modern Athlete Club Quarterly Event is planned for a Saturday morning early in October at Huddle Park in Club Street, Linksfield, Johannesburg, and this time we will be doing a more interactive clinic-type event, with attendees breaking into smaller groups and then rotating between the various speakers every 30 or so minutes for a more personal and interactive experience. Keep a look out on www. facebook.com/modernathleteclub for updates on this event, as well as more upcoming seminars, clinics and club runs in other cities.
