As the 4th of April draws nearer, so
the final preparations for the 2015
Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon
are being done, including the last
few days of substitutions at the
beginning of March.
O
n the fourth of March, exactly two months before
race day and one month before entries were due to
close, the last entries for the 2015 Old Mutual Two
Oceans Ultra Marathon sold out as the 11,000 limit was
reached. With the Half Marathon and Trail Runs fully
subscribed, the Substitution process opened for those
races on 23 January, and now any hopeful late entrants
for the Ultra must also find a substitute entry in order to
still run the World’s Most Beautiful Marathon. Meanwhile,
online entries for the Fun Runs continue to be taken.
THANK YOU FOR DONATIONS
When entering, runners have the option to make a
donation to charity, which is then ploughed into the
organisations supported by TOMI (Two Oceans Marathon
Initiative). Over R250,000 has already been raised, so a
big thank you to all runners that have contributed.
SUBSTITUTION INFO

The Substitution Entry process allows runners who can
no longer participate to pass on their entry to another
runner, provided it is done within the timeframe of 23
January to 4 March, and it is important that runners
follow the correct procedure. This is because a runner’s
personal profile, including medical information and
emergency contact details, is linked to their individual
race number and RaceTec chip (the timing device worn
by each runner in the Half Marathon, Ultra Marathon and
Trail Runs).
Therefore, runners are reminded that they are not
allowed to simply take over and run with another
runner’s race number or chip. While it may sound like a
harmless and easy solution, the consequences could be
life-threatening in the case of an emergency, if the wrong
medical info is used. Runners who substitute in must
follow the correct procedure in order to get their personal
profile information linked to their new number and chip.
If you are looking for an entry, or need to withdraw from
the race, please post your details on the event’s Facebook
page (www.facebook.com/TwoOceansMarathon) or on
Twitter (@2OceansMarathon, or #OMTOM2015).
RUNNERS’ VILLAGE
APPLICATIONS OPEN
Every year, financial constraints prevent many talented but
disadvantaged athletes from participating in the Old Mutual
Two Oceans Marathon. In an effort to give these athletes
the opportunity to be a part of the world’s most beautiful
marathon, the Two Oceans Marathon NPC invites running
clubs to assist their less privileged members to apply to be
part of the Runners’ Village this coming Easter Weekend.
Athletes from across South Africa will be accommodated,
and the Runners’ Village, situated at the Cape Academy of
Mathematics, Science and Technology in Tokai, will host the
athletes from Friday 3 April, and meals, accommodation
and transport will be provided to successful applicants who
meet the following criteria:
• Applicants should be unemployed OR earn less than
R3000 per month.
• Applicants should be registered with an ASA-affiliated
athletic club.
• Runners must have entered and qualified for the 2015
Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon.
• Athletes must make their own way to Cape Town.
Runners interested in applying should call Patiswa on
021 799 3040 between 10am and 3pm, e-mail
runnersvillage@twooceansmarathon.org.za, or visit
www.twooceansmarathon.org.za. Preference will be given
to 56km novices and athletes who have never stayed in the
Runners’ Village before. Applications close on 4 March 2015.
