Getting Closer! Two Oceans Marathon Ma As Easter Weekend draws closer, the excitement ahead of the 2015 Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon is growing by the day, and the World’s Most Beautiful Race is set to be another classic on 4 April. W ith 80 days to go until the 2015 Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon, there were about 2000 ultra entries left, but these are expected to all be snapped up before entries officially close on 4 March. All 16,000 entries for the Half Marathon sold out in record time, as did the 1000 Trail Run entries, and entries for the Fun Runs and International Friendship Run have already started coming in. The total number of entries thus stood at 25,292 at the time of writing. MEET THE NEW GM In August the Two Oceans Marathon NPC appointed Carol Vosloo as its new General Manager. She started her ‘sporting career’ as events co-ordinator at Eastern Province Cricket. Since then she has gained a wealth of experience in the sporting world. As a partner and director of a sports marketing consultancy in Johannesburg, she managed and executed events such as the Nedbank Golf Challenge and national and SEEDING & SUBSTITUTIONS international sports events. “I’ve been fortunate to Seeding updates for both the Half and Ultra Marathon as well as both Trail Runs can be done between 23 January and 4 March. Simply log on to the event’s online entry system and update your seeding with the name, date and distance of the race and the time you ran, plus a website address where your new time can be verified. Runners who missed out on an entry will also be able to do online substitutions between 23 January and 4 March, if all entries have sold out. DOUBLE 40 FOR LOUIS The 2015 Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon will play witness to a remarkable milestone when Louis Massyn of the Goudveld Multi Sport club finishes, as he will become the first runner to earn 40 medals at both Two Oceans and the Comrades Marathon. Up till now, the only runner to finish the Two Oceans 40 times was Noel Stamper, who completed his 41st and final consecutive voyage in 2011. In 2012 Louis became the sixth of just nine runners to date who have run 40 Comrades, and he did so in consecutive years as well, adding a further two medals since then. His 39 Two Oceans medals (6 silver, 31 bronze, 2 blue) have also come in consecutive years since 1976, with a best of 3:41:15 in 1981. Tony Abrahamson of Foresters is also in line to earn his 40th Two Oceans medal this year.
