SOUTH AFRICA advertorial Ma The Capital’s Monster Deloitte Pretoria Marathon, Half Marathon & 10km, Gauteng North, 1 March N Images: Courtesy organiser ow in its 42nd year, the Deloitte Marathon is a proud and historic event that will test runners as they run past some of the capital’s most attractive and historic spots, including the Union Buildings and Pretoria Boys’ High, both designed by Sir Herbert Baker and both national monuments. Starting at the PHSOB Club in Lynwood, the two-lap marathon route kicks off with steady climbs into Waterkloof Ridge and Klapperkop Hill, but the early testers are well worth it, providing breathtaking views of the city centre and surrounding mountains. At the 7km marker, the downhill charge will be accompanied by the strident sounds of the Boys’ High Pipe Band as you run through the school grounds. After that there are some small climbs around the 15km point, but the legs will be thankful for the last two kays of downhill towards the race venue. The marathon is an official Two Oceans and Comrades qualifier, while those looking for something a little shorter can opt for the 21.1km (one lap of the marathon course) or the 10km, so race day will give all athletes the opportunity to compete and have fun.
