What would you tell a runner looking to run his/
her 1st ComradesMarathon next year? Any
advice or words of encouragement for the
gruelling trek to Pietermaritzburg...
Tara Lee-Hossack Van Dam: Expect pain and
expect huge mental fights, but you CAN get
through it.
Joshua Mathebula: Looong easy runs is the key.
Caroline Lee: Running Comrades is a commitment
from Jan to June, so choose a reasonable training
programme, plan your runs up till Comrades, and
work out the pace you need to run Comrades and
then train at that speed. You need to focus on your
goal, which is Comrades, and train for it. You don’t
need to run a PB at every race.
Jennifer Joynt: Make hills your friend.
Jono Niemann: You will be forever changed.
Pious Radebe: Run your own race, otherwise you’re
not going to cross the finishing line.
Anthony Bold: Keep it real and honest.
TO THE POLLS
August is Women's Month
and we have a number
of women's races on the
calendar, but should there
be some men's races too?
30% - I don’t think so,
because most races already
have more male entries
anyway.
20% - Definitely not... It’s a
man’s world, so they already
get enough attention!
0% - Perhaps, but the
calendar is already too packed
with events.
50% - Yes, men also deserve
to be celebrated – and then
the women can cross-dress as
men for a change!
