Ma dare to tri Dream to Tri With one month of training already done, we have 90 eager athletes signed up for the Modern Athlete Dare to Tri Academy, including a good mix of novices as well as returning members, all looking to take on the Ironman 70.3, or improve on their previous performances. – BY LAUREN VAN DER VYVER Coach’s Corner You can still join us! A word from DTT coach Derick Marcisz Images: Courtesy Greg Kench, Christine Barrow & TriRock Durban The challenge of completing a triathlon has resulted in many events selling out fast, and the number of novices entering these events is around 50%, with an increase in female competitors seen recently as well. So, the launch of this year’s DTT programme was well attended and the novices all enjoyed the talks from a few of last year’s members. There are some really inspiring stories and memories, and everybody was eager to get training. The much-anticipated weekend-coached sessions have seen 20 to 30 eager triathletes joining me for a Saturday morning run, a Saturday afternoon swim and a Sunday morning ride. The level of enthusiasm, especially from the newcomers, is absolutely fantastic, and even the colder weather did not scare the novices away. Officially starting on 1 July, the programme will build towards the 5150 Bela Bela in August and TriRock Durban in October, and it is certainly not too late to join the Academy to train for any of the summer triathlons leading up to Ironman 70.3 East London. We will keep registration open during August – just visit www.modernathlete.co.za and follow the Dare to T
