Modern Athlete magazine is proud to sign up as official media
partner of Run/Walk For Life, and in upcoming editions we will feature
different branches, focus on success stories in the programme, and
highlight the benefits of being part of the Run/Walk For Life programme.
W
ith more than 100 branches throughout South
Africa and over 30 000 members, Run/Walk For
Life specialises in getting you started, even if
your level of fitness is very low or non-existent,
and within three to six weeks you will see a
definite increase in your fitness levels and weight
reduction.
Not Just For Beginners
For those who are already fit, Run/Walk For
Life also offers advanced fitness training,
including up to ultra-marathon distances.
This year our various running clubs from all
over the country collectively had over 800
members participating in the Old Mutual
Two Oceans Marathon and Half Marathon,
while over 700 members completed the
Comrades Marathon. That makes Run/Walk
For Life one of the biggest and most active
athletic clubs in SA!

Once you have joined, your fitness levels will
be assessed and you will be placed in a group
according to your ability.
The RWFL programme is a three times a
week exercise plan that caters for everyone,
irrespective of fitness level. A very unfit
person may start with as little as just five
minutes of aerobic exercise, and the fitter
members with anything between 5km and
10km per session, making us the ideal
exercise home for the entire fitness spectrum.
All members are supervised and monitored
by a qualified trainer/manager, most of whom
are ultra-marathoners themselves, so you
have your own personal trainer.
You set your own personal fitness and weightloss goals, in consultation with our staff,
and they will design a customised training
schedule to suit your goals
Advancement up levels is gradual and
according to a scientific formula, to ensure
progress is neither too fast nor too slow.
All exercise groups exercise along pre-marked
routes, under the supervision of road leaders
– member security is a cornerstone of the
programme.
The Run/Walk For Life programme is suitable for
people of all ages and fitness levels, including
pregnant women, and a core component of the
programme is that members exercise in groups of
similar ability and fitness. You will not be made to
exercise with people who will push you too hard,
nor will you have to wait for slower people.
So, whether you are over 70 or under 15, male or
female, fit or unfit, thin or overweight, a beginner
or experienced athlete, you will be surrounded
by people who are just the same as you are! And
most importantly, you will have fun, while losing
weight and getting fit!
