Games
On 23 July the 20 Commonwealth Games will begin in Glasgow,
Scotland, and Team South Africa will contest 15 of the 17
sporting codes over 12 days, including some of our top
para-athletes taking part in a record 22 events that have been
added to the able-bodied programme. This year triathlon is also
back on the programme, and for the first time a triathlon mixed

Merwe, Charl du Toit, Andrea Dalle Ave, Juanelie Meijer and Lean Simon. In triathlon, SA will
be represented by Richard Murray, Henri Schoeman, Wian Sullwald, Kate Roberts and Gillian
Sanders.
At the last Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India (2010), Team South Africa won 33
medals to end joint fifth on the medals table, with 12 gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze medals.
Five of those medals were won in athletics: Gold for Chris Harmse (Men’s Hammer) and
Sunette Viljoen (Women’s Javelin), silver for LJ van Zyl (Men’s 400m Hurdles) and Samkelo
Radebe (Men’s Para 100m T46), and bronze for Just [
