Perfectly THE SUB-9:00 BILL ROWAN BUS Johan van Tonder, 8:56:00, 13th medal Club: Alberton AC, Central Gauteng A veteran pacer, Johan didn’t just volunteer, he absolutely badgered the Modern Athlete team with enthusiasm leading up to the race, so psyched up for the run was he. Despite losing clubmate and fellow pacer Gavin Pansegrouw early in the race, he knew the runners around him were relying on him to bring the bus home for that coveted Bill Rowan medal, and he duly delivered. Gavin Pansegrouw, (9:43:55), 9th medal Club: Alberton AC, Central Gauteng Gavin simply had one of those ‘bad days in the office,’ finding that his legs felt heavy right from the start of the race. He stayed with Johan as long as he could, but eventually had to make the hard call to call it a day in terms of going for a sub-9:00. Our pacers are asked to give it their best shot, but even the best can have an off day, and we’re sure Gavin will be back to try again. Johan van Tonder & Gavin Pansegrouw The Modern Athlete Pacesetters were once again in action at Comrades 2014, and the guys and girl with the flags deserved all the high-fives and hugs they received at the finish. Derrick Rondganger with Vlam Pieterse Ma feature THE SUB-11:00 BRONZE BUS Club: Eskom Gijimas Central Gauteng Jeff was the last pacer to sign up for duty this year, after it initially looked like we wouldn’t have a sub-11 driver.
