Spur Cape Summer Trail Series #3,
Grabouw, Western Cape, 2 February
I have officially fallen in love with the trails of the
Lebanon Forest near Grabouw. From pine trees, to
switchbacks, to rocky inclines and running through the
orchards, this race had it all, but for me, the highlight
was all the single-track, in particular the one section
Up front, the 13.2km Long Course race saw more
dominant displays from Zimbabwean Bernard Rukadza
and Danette Smith, who both stormed to their third wins
of the Series. Meanwhile, the 6.2km Short Course race
saw Riaan Wildskut take the lead in the overall Series,
while young Hayley Preen once again stormed home as
first lady. In stark contrast, I couldn’t have cared less
what my time or position was. I could have stayed out
on those trails all day, and I don’t think I have ever hated
seeing a finish line quite so much. Now I can’t wait for
the Spur Winter Trail Series!
