Comrades
Just Round
the Corner!
With about three months until this year’s Comrades Marathon
Down Run, you should be focusing on your training and running
a qualifier, not stressing over flights or where you will stay.
While the CMA can’t help you to train or qualify, the good news
is that we can help you with your travel and accommodation
arrangements. – BY DELAINE COOLS
Behind Amabeadibeadi
A word from Bronwyn Freeman, CMA
Accountant
“The Comrades Marathon’s Amabeadibeadi charities
are very close to my heart and one of the most
rewarding parts of my job at the CMA. I am walking
the talk this year and raising funds for these special
causes. All funds raised will be split equally between
the six Amabeadibeadi Charities: Community Chest,
Pink Drive, Starfish Foundation, Sports Trust, World
Vision and Wildlands Conservation Trust.
As part of the Unogwaja Challenge support team, I will
be using their fundraising platform to raise the money.
Please help me to help others by making a donation,
or contact me so we can make a plan! The Unogwaja
Challenge participants are aiming to raise R1 million
for the Amabeadibeadi charities in 2014, so every little
bit helps!
CMA Launches Comrades Travel
As the rush begins for participants in the 2014
Ultimate Human Race to secure flights and
accommodation in the run-up to the world’s biggest,
oldest ultra-marathon on 1 June, the Comrades
Marathon Association (CMA) has announced its latest
initiative to facilitate the process. Comrades Travel,
the official travel and accommodation service provider
endorsed by the CMA, was launched in February,
with the aim to ease the pressure on Comrades
runners to find safe, reliable and affordable travel
and accommodation when they take on this year’s
Comrades.
No matter where you are travelling from, Comrades
Travel will have a package to suit you, as it caters
both for out-of-town a well as visiting international
athletes. This latest offering is tailor-made to take
care of all runners’ travel requirements from start to
finish. More details at www.comrades.com. You can
also get in touch with the Comrades Travel office on
086 127 7765 or e-mail: [email protected].
Substitutions In April

Runners who want to give up their entry and those
looking to take over an entry from a withdrawing
runner must take note that the substitution process
opens on 1 April, for South African athletes only, and
all applications must reach the CMA by no later than
30 April. No late substitutions will be processed after
that date. Details at www.comrades.com, or you can
also call 033 897 8650 for more info.
