T he men’s race was won by former IRONMAN 70.3 South Africa champion, Frederik van Lierde of Belgium, in a time of 8:12:29, ending Australia’s six-year male dominance, but Marinda Carfrae continued the Aussie streak by winning her second women’s world title in a new world record 8:52:14. However, local eyes were focussed on James Cunnama, the only South African professional in a field featuring the world’s best triathletes.
