Landmarks Half Marathon & Move for Health 6km, WPCC, Rondebosch, Cape Town, 3 November “What are you doing for the Landmarks Half?” my friend (and race organiser) Chet Sainsbury asked a few years ago. I thought he was going to ask me to help work at the race, so thinking on my feet, I answered, “I’m running it,” even though I wasn’t really ?t at the time. And what a lovely run it turned out to be. – BY JOHN BRIMBLE
with the magical view up to the pearl pink-lit Table Mountain underscoring the privilege of running in the Cape. Off we went, and you had to keep your wits about you, as this is a course that twists and turns to pass seemingly every landmark in the area, but the marshals were on top of their game. The course took us around Rondebosch Common, past the Red Cross Hospital, the Irma Stern Museum, up to UCT campus and that endless hill up to Rhodes Memorial. But the views across to the Helderberg, the green So will I wait for Chet to phone again? Nope. This is one to enjoy again and again!

jogged over to the start, as I live nearby,
mountain forests, the kloofs and buttresses of Table Mountain above, and the spring fynbos all enhanced the experience. At the bottom, it was a hard right to Newlands forest station, under the subway and down to Main Street. One could get a real rhythm here. We thought of the many beers to come as we eased past SA Breweries, then through Keurboom Park and on to the ?nish.

It promises to be a fun-?lled day for the whole family!
The schools with the highest participation will win prize money compliments of MySchool, Woolworths and ADT. Lucky draw prizes include New Balance apparel, product vouchers from Sportsmans Warehouse and SSISA programme memberships.
