Half Marathon & 10km SUNDAY 29 SEPTEMBER – CENTURION TO JOHANNESBURG, GAUTENG This is the biggest and best ultra on the Gauteng calendar, and has been around for a very long time – it was first run in 1903 as the Stock Exchange Go As You Please, between the Johannesburg and Pretoria City Halls on the then untarred Old Pretoria Road. Although not run every year since then, this will be nevertheless be the 40th running of this venerable race, which alternates direction with each running. This year it is the ‘up run’ from Pretoria to Johannesburg again, with the start of the ultra at the Centurion Gautrain Station and the finish at James & Ethel Gray Park in Melrose. Both the 10km and 21.1km start in Melrose. The 50km route is challenging, especially the climb out of the Jukskei River valley around the 30km mark, but by normal standards of South African ultra’s, which are notorious for their monster hills, this one offers the opportunity of a fast time, so bring your racing shoes. The 50km and 21km races are strictly pre-entry and limited to 3 000 entrants, with entries accepted up to a week before the race. Late entries will be taken for the 10km.
