Beyers Greesntone Run 8km & 5km Johannesburg , Central Gauteng , 24 March 2024

There were high fives all around as a sold-out field of runners and walkers took to the Joburg streets around the Greenstone area at the 2024 edition of the Beyers Greenstone Run . Hosted by Greenstone Hill Running Club and offering 8km and 5km distances , the event is known as the sweetest race , thanks to the chocolate medals handed out by title sponsor Beyers Chocolates .

In the 8km main event , line honours went to 2016 South African Marathon Champion and Tokyo 2021 Olympic marathoner Desmond Mokgobu , who crossed the line in 25:20 . The women ’ s 8km race saw Kate Van Jaarsveld successfully defend her title in a time of 32:00 .

The 5km race was an officially timed race ( instead of an untimed fun run ) and incorporated the Central Gauteng 5km Championships . The overall win and provincial title went to junior Juan-Pierre van der Berg in a time of 15:26 , while another junior , Cassidy Bosman , took the win in the women ’ s 5km and the provincial title with a 17:56 winning effort .

Congrats to all the podium placers , but a huge round of applause for everyone who crossed the finish line . You pushed yourselves , conquered the course , and embraced the Beyers Greenstone Run community spirit . And of course , thank you to our race sponsors and partners – Beyers Chocolates , Stoneridge Centre , Switch Energy , Johnson Workwear , Revite and Clippa – for making the race possible .
