The Experience : Some of the media contingent – Kevin Peters , Aubrey Isaacs and Lionel Samuels – enjoying a pre-race leg-loosener on Robben Island the day before the inaugural Robben Island Museum Memorial Run 10km . Logistically , this event was quite the undertaking – it took five ferry trips to carry all 1000 participants from the mainland to Robben Island , which also meant there were five staggered starts – but with many runners visiting the historic island for the first time , it turned out to be a fascinating race experience .
