The Experience : This race has been living up to its name for 49 years – it would have been the 51 st edition this year if not for COVID – and runners who have tackled those two big climbs in Jan Smuts Avenue in the first 1.5km will certainly attest to the toughness of this route . But that just softens you up for the climb to Northgate , followed by the monster climb to St Stithians ! That ’ s why they say this race only really starts at 18km … but what a feeling when you have conquered all those hills !
