CITY events are known for being a party on foot , with bands , DJs , dancers and cheerleaders , as well as numerous vibe zones by the series sponsors , lining the route and creating a fantastic vibe from start to finish . The runners are also urged to wear their red race T-shirts , and the good folk of Tshwane responded , ready to paint their city red .
Exciting Race Up Front
Another aspect of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series that stands out is the elite racing , with the top runners from across South Africa as well as a number of international visitors keen to set good times on the fast courses , and to claim a share of the substantial prize money on offer . In 2023 , the Series boasts an impressive combined prize purse of R1,560,000 , with each of the five events offering R312,000 in prize money . Of this , R126,000 each goes to the top 10 men and women ,
with a first place prize of R30,000 each for the men ’ s and women ’ s winners .
That saw a strong field line up in Tshwane , but whereas the Gqeberha , Cape Town and Durban legs of the series are at sea level and the elites really push for their fastest times , the races at
Ethiopians dominated the women ’ s race , with Glenrose Xaba the best of the local athletes
