This race just lends itself to ‘ Kodak Moments .’
At Run The Karoo , one can expect the unexpected at prize-giving . For the more serious runners , the organisers have some great prizes and unique Karoo sheep or cactus trophies , as well as the Jackal of the Night Award for the first finisher in the Night Run , but there are also a number of unusual category prizes up for grabs , including Hope Gin , Deetlefs wines and Kakiebos hampers , for these ‘ alternative ’ categories :

• Most Unique Instagram Pic
• Gin Made Me Do It
• Berg Skilpad ( last runner in )
• Keg Gobbler ( leading beer drinker of the day )
A trail run simply must have a few switchbacks !
In addition to taking home the fully-loaded goodie bags , all runners were awarded a cute wire sculpture of a sheep , and prize-giving celebrated far more than just the top runners , including shout-outs for the best dressed , most festive , and even the biggest beer drinker of the weekend ! Sunday night festivities were then enjoyed by the runners , supporters and the many children who had all come along from Cape Town , Johannesburg , Gqeberha and beyond to enjoy a unique weekend of Karoo hospitality .
Awesome Weekend Away
This is more than a running event . It is an escape from reality , an opportunity to make new friends , and the perfect weekend away for a sporty family . I went on a solo adventure , and loved every minute of it , but travelling and experiencing it all with a group of friends or my family would have been even better . All the same , once in a while it really pays to say “ yes ” to something completely different . The Karoo holds a unique brand of magic , and is the perfect antidote to big-city weariness .
The Karoo is a wonderful setting for a trail run .
The night skies are just one of the reasons to visit the Karoo .
