A superb sprint effort from last year ’ s runner-up Lize- Ann Louw , allowed her to claim the top spot , and the remaining podium spots were claimed by Sannara Grove in second and Ricci-Lee Brookestone in third .

All the categories were hotly contested , with many bunch finishes throughout the morning . This included the 50-plus Masters category , where the 1986 SA Professional Champion , Neil Crosthwaite , scored a popular victory by recalling his exceptional sprinting skills of old .
Overall , this was a superbly presented race , with a good field of almost 2700 and very few injuries or casualties . The race organising committee also worked hard to make the road as safe as possible for the field , filling potholes on the route at their own cost in order to ensure that cyclists had a clear road to ride .

The funds raised aid this organisation ’ s research and upliftment projects in the fight against retinal blindness , and over the last 34 years , the event has raised well over R10 million for this cause , helping to ensure that South African patients have access to emerging treatments .
