The 165km main event of the Grand Raid Reunion is a bucket list event for many hardcore ultra-trail runners , not only because it traverses a remote , exotic , tropical island in the middle of the Indian Ocean , but also because it is considered one of the most gruelling trail races in the world . SA ’ s Anton Neethling tackled the race this past October , and survived to tell the story . In other words , he got the T-shirt . This is his story .
