RACE CALENDAR
The Modern Athlete Race Calendar was put on temporary hold when the COVID pandemic hit and all events were cancelled . Our intention was to bring it back once races returned , and even though a few trail events managed to reopen when we went to level three , and more came online in the months since then , every time we thought about resurrecting the calendar , another wave of COVID infections would shut things down again . We decided to hold off , given that events were still being cancelled more often than not .
Towards the end of 2021 , however , things began to change . In spite of the Omicron variant fourth wave starting , we ’ ve seen provinces working on annual road running calendars for the first time since early 2020 , and road races have started to come back at last . Still with limited etries and strict COVID protocols in place , but they ’ re back !
We are thus bringing our calendar back … but it will take a few more days , as one of the biggest running provinces in the country is set to finalise its 2022 fixture list in the next few days .
We are going to wait for those fixtures to be made official , then update our listing and publish it here . So , if you check back in a few days , you will once again be able to plan your racing with the help of SA ’ s most complete monthly published race calendar , featuring :

Of course , until such time as the pandemic is officially over and COVID-cancellations are no more , any calendar will be subject to confirmation or last-minute changes , but the way we look at things , it ’ s time to start getting back to normal !
