Live Well

Get Tapping , Feel Better By Karyn Cowan

EFT Stands for Emotional Freedom Technique , also known as Tapping or Psychological Acupressure . Based on Chinese acupuncture points in the body , it is an alternative practice to relieve physical pain and emotional distress .

People who use EFT believe that tapping the body can create a balance in your energy system and treat pain . Similar to acupuncture , EFT focuses on the meridian , or energy hot spots , to restore balance to your body ’ s energy . It is believed that restoring this energy balance can relieve symptoms that a negative experience or emotion may have caused .

Based on Chinese medicine , meridian points are thought of as areas of the body that energy flows through . These pathways help balance energy flow to maintain your health , whereas any imbalance can influence disease or sickness . However , where acupuncture uses needles to apply pressure to these energy points , EFT uses fingertip tapping to apply pressure .
There are nine tapping points to pinpoint : 1 . The side of the hand called the karate chop point 2 . Top of the head 3 . Eyebrow point in the middle of the eyebrows 4 . Side of the eye 5 . Under the eye 6 . On the top lip under the nose 7 . On the chin in the cleft 8 . On the collar bone 9 . Under the arm
Proponents say the tapping helps you access your body ’ s energy and send signals to the part of the brain that controls stress or anxiety . They claim that stimulating the meridian points through EFT tapping can reduce the stress or negative emotion you feel from your issue , ultimately restoring balance to your disrupted energy . EFT tapping is also an authorised treatment for war veterans with PTSD , and it has demonstrated some benefits as a treatment for anxiety , depression , physical pain and insomnia .
Before you start . Scan your body and take a moment to locate where your discomfort is sitting in your body . We all feel tension in different areas , and it helps to know what you are aiming to relieve . Then rate this pain , discomfort or tension on a scale of 1 to 10 based on its intensity . After you gone through a full cycle of tapping , rate this pain , discomfort or tension again , and repeat regularly until you get to zero . Tapping is very forgiving , so don ’ t worry too much if you are hitting the exact points . Tapping in the general area will still have an effect .
