45 Years of Passion for Running
The Sweat Shop is a specialist running store group , with stores in Johannesburg , Centurion and Cape Town . Passion has kept us going since we first opened in 1976 , and will continue to do so !
With more than 1000 races completed between them , including over 400 marathons and ultras , our team members have ‘ run the run ,’ and that allows them to ‘ walk the talk ’ when it comes to helping make the best buy for your own running . That ’ s the passion we speak of , as well as the knowledge , expertise and experience
And yet , our team members are not all the same … Some are elite runners , while others simply enjoy running for fitness ; some have high arches and others have wide feet . Because of this , we collectively know how different products suit different feet , and different biomechanics . Which is why we are beyond just a running store !
Our approach is customer-focused and service orientated , and our expert staff will spend one-on-one time with you to perform an appropriate analysis that allows us to help you find the gear that fits your needs .
MEET THE TEAM
We ’ d like to introduce you to some of the experienced members of our team , who will be on hand to help you in our various stores .
Edwin Molepo Broadacres store , Gauteng Ed knows a thing or two about running ! As a former national 3000m steeplechase and cross-country champion , just some of the standout events on his long running CV include the African Champs in Nairobi , World Student Games in Belgrade and Shenzhen , as well as a Golden Spike meet in Ostrava ! In the store , he ’ s a go-to guy for footwear advice , with more than eight years of expertise in the field , and his sport science qualification helps him speak the language of injuries and performance well , which is another handy tool . Say hi to Ed in our Broadacres store in Fourways .
Dylan Stevenson
Claremont store , Western Cape This is the guy behind our online store and digital channels – his goal is to bring technical knowledge onto our online front – but you can usually find him working from our Cape Town branch . Apart from being a shoe-geek , Dylan has a five-year sport science background and is very interested in the effects of footwear on running performance and injuries . Needless to say , he spends a lot of time studying the sport of running . In his own running capacity , Dylan has medalled at a senior provincial level and is currently training to break his half marathon PB .
Craig Cynkin
Dunkeld West store , Gauteng We actually have three Craigs working at The Sweat Shop . This one is based in our Dunkeld store and has been with us for approximately 12 years , building immense experience of helping runners , and he is great to talk to about all things running and footwear . Craig can often be spotted donning his Nike kit , and he may be late getting to the store on Sundays – you can blame his serious long run for this ! Despite the lack of races during COVID-19 , Craig has kept up his training for marathon and ultra-marathon distances , having clocked a superb 2:25:00 marathon in the 2018 Sevilla Marathon in Spain .
