Records Tumble at 2020 K-Way SkyRun

Perfect running conditions coupled with the hunger born from having no racing from March till November due to the COVID pandemic , contributed to the 2020 K-Way SkyRun being one for the record books . The race saw it ’ s first foreign win as Spaniard Pere Aurell Bove took first place in the 100km main event , with two-time winner Lucky Miya home second . They were followed home by Pere ’ s partner , Duchwoman Ragna Debats , who finished third overall in a new women ’ s record .
In the 65km race , Simon Tshabalala took nearly three minutes off AJ Calitz ’ s previous men ’ s course record , while Deanné Horn finished fourth overall as she too broke the women ’ s course . Both were running Skyrun for the first time . The 38km race was won by Skippy Claassens , with the women ’ s title claimed by Elise Wiese .
“ In the few days leading up to SkyRun , we had a lot of rain predicted , so we were sure we were going to be in for a wet one this year , but fortunately the weather played along and we had a fabulous day out in the mountains today ,” says race organiser , Mike de Haast from Pure Adventures . “ It was a great duel upfront between Lucky and Pere , who were going at it hammer and tongs , and by their own admission a bit too fast at the beginning , which they paid for in the second half . Ragna had an amazing race , smashing the women ’ s record , which is just incredible on this course , and finishing third overall .”
