4 The Ed ’ s Desk : Hoping for Better in 2021

8

As I write this , my partner and I are still coming to terms with the fact that our traditional Christmas Eve get-together with family has just been cancelled , due to the current spike in COVID infections . It made sense to play it safe and cancel , no matter how much it hurt to do so , and now we ’ re hoping for better days in the New Year . – BY SEAN FALCONER

Kalmer ’ s Corner : Time for a New Start
The New Year is upon us and you know what that means … New Year ’ s resolutions , new running goals , and time to give 2020 the boot for good ! It is no secret that we all love the idea of a “ fresh start ,” but more than ever , we are ready to embrace 2021 with new hope of what could be . – BY RENE KALMER

Walk This Way : Friends for Life
I have always been a firm believer that anything is possible , as long as you surround yourself with the right people that support you , and as the year comes to an end , I realise I have been extremely blessed to have had such incredible people surrounding me . – BY ANEL OOSTHUIZEN
Trail ( Mis ) Adventures : Surviving the Rhino
The Rhino Peak Challenge is called a ‘ challenge ’ for a reason . It was one of the toughest runs I have ever done – OK , it was mainly a walk , but let ’ s call it a run , because that sounds cooler – and my legs still screaming at me a week later was proof of that ! – BY CARLA FARINA

The Running Mann : Social Distancing in Ventersdorp
Due to the COVID-19 lockdown , I have not been able to get my usual marathoning fix in , so this month , since we are being asked to practice social distancing , I have gone back to two trips to Ventersdorp in 2017 , which definitely had more than their fair share of social distancing . – BY STUART MANN
