Run Your City Series is Participation Event of the Year
The Participation Event of the Year award, sponsored by Thirsti, went to Stillwater
Sport for its FNB Run Your City Series. This is a mass participation road race series,
consisting of four events that take runners on a memorable journey through the streets
of the host city, highlighting iconic landmarks while featuring lively performances by
leading performing arts groups. Each event also features an elite racing element with
local and international star athletes vying for their share in an impressive prize purse,
as well as chasing World Records and World Bests on the super-fast routes.
In 2019 the FNB Run Your City Series boasted close to 40,000 runners across the
four races in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and for the first time in 2019,
Maputo in neighbouring Mozambique. The Cape Town race is 12km long, while the
other three races are all 10km.
This award comes five years after Stillwater conceptualised and produced the
first event in the series, in Cape Town. According to Michael Meyer, founder of
the series and Managing Director of Stillwater Sports, receiving the award is a
humbling experience. “When we created the first event with its huge focus on
innovation in road running, it was a true challenge. But within five years, the series
is a tremendous success for our sponsors, and we continue to focus on the superb
experience that each and every entrant has when entering our events.”
