YOU GO,
MOM!
This is a photo of my
parents, who both turned
70 years old last year. My
dad has been running for
years now, but my mom,
Gail, has only started to
walk in her 70’s. In July,
she walked the 15km of
the MTN Walk The Talk
with 702. This was her
first race, and first medal
she has received. She
walked it so well and
was so excited about her
achievement. Not bad
for a 70 year old! – Lisa
Mackenzie, Johannesburg
As the ‘old saying’ goes, you’re never too old to start, so way to go, Gail! Hope
you enjoy all the races and medals still to come.– Ed
SISTERS ON THE RUN
Herewith a crazy pic of my sister and I showing off for my mom who was
out supporting us at the Durban City Marathon and snapping some shots.
We had just gone into our second loop for the marathon and thought
it would be a good idea that when we saw mom, I would go down on
to my knees and Fran would run, stand and jump over me for some
humour. Never a dull moment when the two of us run together! That’s Fran
(Frances Gandy) wearing the colours of Hillcrest Villagers, and me in the
Queensburgh Harriers colours. –
Paula Humphreys, Durban
I am a firm believer in having
as much fun as possible during
races – and lots of great chats
– to help pass the kays, but
jumping over each other like
that during marathons? That’s
next level stuff! – Ed
SHOES NEEDED,
PLEASE
I’m 67, a state pensioner,
and have been long distance road running for more than 30 years. I’m
passionate about it, and in fact, it keeps me alive. In December 2016, I
underwent a triple bypass and healed quickly, so I was soon back on the
road. Then in November 2017 a slight stroke changed my life. Instead of
running, I now walk. Every moment I can. It’s what keeps me going.
However, my current running shoes are over two years old and the tread
is finished, which is affecting my knees. Unfortunately, being a SASSA
pensioner, I cannot afford to purchase a new pair of shoes, so is there anyone
who would consider donating me a pair of long distance running shoes,
please? If yes, I wear a size 11UK. Thanking you in advance. – Leon Burchell
Hopefully there is a fellow reader out there willing to help Leon. If so,
please send your contact info to [email protected] and I’ll put
the two of you in touch. – Ed
